I had not heard of this dynamic British duo before yesterday and on a dreary, rainy afternoon, listening to a few of their tracks brightened my day. The group, simply titled AlunaGeorge, consists of Aluna Francis (the vocalist) and George Reid (the producer). Making a name for themselves in the UK during 2011, they are obviously just gaining popularity in North America. It baffles me that we are always behind in regards to what is hip across the pond! The group is still so new on the scene that they don’t even have a complete Wiki page online.
A mash-up between the 90’s R&B I loved in my teenage years, coupled with the base heavy, electro production I grew to adore in my late 20’s, makes them a bit difficult to classify. Not exactly considered “dub-step”, so-to-speak, but I guess I would say they are an eclectic mix of Pop, R&B, and UK Garage. Funny as it sounds, some refer to this as Alternative R&B, which is a bit of an oxymoron, no? I probably haven’t fallen this hard for a female/male duo since Groove Theory …remember that epic track, “Tell Me”?
Within the first 10 seconds of watching the, “You Know You Like It” video (found below), I just knew it was going to be a dope track. The beat pulled me in immediately and the sweet, seductive vocals of the nymph-like beauty kept me engaged for the entire 3 minutes and 30 seconds. I promise you, upon hearing it the second time around, I already found myself humming the melody and intermittently singing the words. Aluna’s look has inspired me so much that I now want to call my hairdresser so she can cut my hair to resemble her chic, long bob.
If you are feeling the above single as much as I do, check out two of their other equally ear-gasmic songs; “Your Drums, Your Love” and “Just a Touch” which are both available on iTunes now!
