If you happen to be a devoted fashion blog reader, then you are probs already familiar with the Swedish style savant, who has become famous for her modernly minimalist aesthetic. From style columnist at Stureptan, a Stockholm based media site, to uber successful style blogger to business woman, Elin Kling is a stylish force to be reckoned with and is quickly making a name for herself (and building a brand) in the global fashion scene. With looks that should have her on international runways, this Scandinavian beauty began style blogging back in 2007 for Stureptan in her home country of Sweden, where the blog phenomenon is above normal levels. Unbeknown to me till I decided to do some research, Sweden is ranked number one in the world by the World Economic Forum, in it’s use of computing and communications technology – and I was shocked to learn that 39% of women between the ages of 16-25 either write or have written a blog. A bit ridiculous, no? So it made me wonder, how the heck did Ms. Kling become a break-out fashion blog star in a country over saturated with aspiring style bloggers?
Like most other style bloggers out there, she began by simply chronicling her daily outfits, interesting aspects of her life and of course style inspiration. This chick became an overnight sensation – literally…I am not joking! By the second day her blog, aptly titled Style By Kling, went live, it was Sweden’s largest fashion blog. These not so humble beginnings were primarily due to the existing traffic of Stureptan and her weekly column, also called Style By Kling, that had already gained widespread popularity.
As Kling gained notoriety, she was awarded with the opportunity to launch her first clothing line – a collabo with H&M, “Elin Kling for H&M”, which unfortunately was only distributed in Sweden and was the very first collaboration for the retailer with a blogger.
Gaining confidence in her growing legions of followers and the experiences learned working with mega retailer H&M, Kling made the intelligent decision to co-found Fashion Networks, a digital media company, back in 2009. Taking advantage of her company and it’s clout, Kling then transferred her blog to Now Manifest, which is pretty much the digital “mecca” for fashion enthusiasts. Now Manifest is part of Fashion Networks and is a site that houses Style By Kling, Anna Dello Russo, Bryan Boy, FashionToast, Industrie Magazine, Mr. Blasberg blog sites and the infamous Net-a-Porter. Almost making it unnecessary for fashionphiles to go anywhere else on the web for fashion blogs, clothes, and updates from the industry. It’s actually a brilliant concept because each site can easily increase it’s numbers via cross-traffic – GENIUS!
This scrubbed, fresh-faced beauty, who seems to never leave home without her trademark black Rayban Wayfarers, has perfected the effortlessly-chic look without even trying. Whether she’s dressed up, dressed down, rocking a tomboy look, or dressed to the nine’s, Elin always hits the fashion mark…its almost nauseating. You can catch Elin in her latest collabo effort, this time with Marciano, which consists of a 34 piece line inspired by Matadors and Spanish femininity, debuted worldwide on Nov. 1st. I am not really a fan of Marciano but this line does have pretty sick pieces…here are four of my favs:
