New Year…new shoe style fetish! As the snow is still quite present on the streets here in Toronto, I can’t stop thinking that it may be time to put my 5 inch shoes away (just for a bit) and throw myself full throttle into the new slipper craze. I can’t lie, I’ve been gravitating towards this look for quite some time but always thought wearing flats/slippers would make my size 40 feet look like boats. Prada has entered the slipper game with a capsule collection for women consisting of 5 styles ranging from the classic leather slipper, to studded, embroidered and a velvet smoking version. Available online at Prada.com starting at $490.
Smoking slippers just exudes both “casual elegance” and “posh” to me with a certain “je n’ais c’est quoi” and is actually the perfect juxtaposition between the “borrowed-from-the-boys” look without being overtly masculine while still remaining quite refined. Current variations of this classic footwear can appeal to even the pickiest of fashionistas, with options adorned with emblems, super cool patters and even extravagant fabrics. So I guess it’s no wonder why celeb style setters like uber cool Alexa Chung, are now calling them their footwear of choice.
