One of my all time favourite fashion personalities, Simon Doonan, is preparing to release his sixth book, The Asylum: A Collage of Couture Reminiscences this fall and if it’s anything like his past 5 books, I will be the first in line to scoop up his latest work. He may not be a household name, but he’s recognizable amongst the fashion community as the Creative Ambassador-at-Large of NYC’s retail heaven Barneys New York, writer of the style column for Slate Magazine and husband of American Designer, Artist and Author Jonathan Adler.
In his latest literary project, Doonan will let us in on the secrets of his experiences in the crazy world of fashion in a comical collection of autobiographical essays, “Once you start looking, you’ll notice telltale signs of lunacy everywhere: style insiders see patterns and trends in everything; they suffer from outsize personality disorders and delusions of grandeur and of course, they have a predilection of theatrical makeup and artfully destroyed clothing. No one is more suited to the asylum than the truly die hard fashionista – after all, eccentricity and extremism are foundations of great style.” states Doonan.
In this vid, Simon gives a brief introduction to the book from his office, which is obviously decorated with textiles and furniture from his hubby Jonathan Adler’s design company!
The book will be available for sale on September 3rd on Amazon, Barnes and Noble and Indigo Books.
