I’m known for making a lot of definitive statements such as, “I know everything there is to know about what’s going on in Toronto!” but clearly I’m mistaken because I wasn’t aware of a hidden spa oasis in the Queen St. East district, otherwise known as SweetGrass Spa by Verity. A few Fridays ago I headed over to this spot to enjoy some much needed pampering – with little to no expectation and I was blown away. The luxe spa, open only to ladies, is located in a gorge restored 19th century chocolate factory loft building and is actually linked to Verity, which is a private women’s club that offers social ambiance, amenities, fine dining, insightful programs, a networking foundation, created by Founder and Managing Director Mary Aitken. A combination between Spoke Club Toronto and the Soho House but on steroids. Although the spa is linked to this uber exclusive  member’s only club, it’s also open to the public for busy women like myself, who can come in for a massage, send emails from the satellite work station area (which is equipped with a computer and free wi-fi) enjoy a mani/pedi while noshing on a fab meal prepared by Executive Chef Lorenzo Loseto of 5 star restaurant GEORGE – YES this is also attached to the Verity complex and exclusive to SweetGrass Spa.

I swear, there is nothing worse than going into a spa on a busy day and feeling like there is too many other patrons milling about, especially when all you want to do is relax. I can promise you, this won’t happen here. With approximately 15,000 sqft in just the spa alone and treatment rooms strategically spread out throughout the space, you will never feel like your zen state is being compromised. As you pass through the graciously sized lounge, where spa goers can relax, read a book or have a coffee, you enter what I like to refer to as “Bliss” – treatment rooms, an invigorating ozonated swimming pool, whirlpool, steam showers, infrared sauna and the most beautiful mani/pedi room you will ever see which overlooks the pool. The latter couldn’t be more perfect for a bridal or birthday party or just a gab & beauty sesh with your gal pals. Thinking of something on a more larger scale? SweetGrass can do that too! Their facility can accommodate up to 80 guests for anything from holiday parties, promo events, product launches, client appreciation and charity events and all done within your budget.

I kid you not, I went with the intention to only be there for a couple hours and loved it so much it turned into a full day affair. I was so intrigued with the spa’s very own custom formulated cosmetic line, called SweetGrass by Verity I got a skin matching session and make-up application as well. All the products are made right here in Canada, are allergy tested, hypoallergenic, non-comodegenic and fragrance free. I was pleasantly surprised by the diversity of colours they offer for every skin tone. Clearly walked away with some goodies and have been religiously using the line’s Hi-Def foundation, bronzer and highlighter – which is multifaceted and can be used on eyelids, cheeks and even lips. I can’t even deal with the Hi-Def foundation…it literally is LIFE! It takes foundation to a whole new level with it’s collagen and water based formulation.

But what about the treatments and services you’re probably asking yourself right now. Beyond the mainstay spa treatments, they also offer Reiki, luxe body treatments, make-up applications and even eyelash extensions from some of the best eyelash technicians in the city no less! And you can expect only the best products used during these services as they carry SkinCeuticals, Dermalogica and Dr. Hauschka. Totally love the convenience of being able to schedule treatments directly on their website – they seriously think of everything for the modern busy woman.

*Sweet Tip: The signature/must have treatment at the spa is the Lomi Lomi massage treatment. It uses the entire forearm to create a rhythmical flow for the whole body…also known as the “Loving Hands” massage it’s great for soothing away physical and emotional stress. 60 mins – $145, 90 mins – $200
