Woke up this morning to some interesting fashion gossip but wanted to wait until it was confirmed in an official press release…which was done this afternoon, but Taiwanese born, Canadian raised and NYC based Designer Jason Wu, famous for producing one-of-a-kind inaugeration gowns for First Lady Michelle Obama, has been named Artistic Director of Womenswear at Hugo Boss. I couldn’t be more thrilled to hear this fashion update as I’m always stoked to hear Canadians making moves – especially in the fashion world. I know I may sound a bit thirsty, as some may say Wu used Canada as a layover before setting up permanent roots for himself and brand in NYC. But I mean, it’s almost impossible to take your fashion brand to the next level without making some sort of move out of country!
Wu’s new role will be effective on June 15th and he will be working alongside the design team in Germany but will also open a design studio in NYC…natch, “With state-of-the-art facilities that are unique to the Hugo Boss design labs, I plan to develop a strong, feminine womenswear collection that reciprocates the brand’s authority in menswear,” the Designer stated in his press release earlier today. He will commence with a Pre-Fall 2014 collection and a New York Fashion Week runway show in February for Fall/Winter 2014.
Wu will continue to develop his eponymous ready-to-wear and accessories collections, which he founded in 2007 and is currently sold in 39 countries across the world. Congrats Jason…you are making all of us in Canada (and Taiwan) proud!
XO,
S
