Sex and the City fans and fashionistas worldwide were all a flutter yesterday on social media as June 6th marked the 15th anniversary of the cult HBO show’s debut on television. It could not have been a more appropriate time for the actress and style icon to announce her upcoming shoe collaboration with – you guessed it, Carrie Bradshaw’s sole (soul) mate, Manolo Blahnik. And I can only hope that the third time is a charm for SJP after failed fashion attempts as Creative Director for Halston and defunct clothing line Bitten (smh). Some may say this is the venture she should have done in the very beginning, “In a silly way, I think it’s what people have expected of me most because of Carrie Bradshaw…” Parker told Vogue.com. “It’s sort of soup to nuts. You put on a shoe and you put on a coat and you wear a bag, on the outside, when you’re walking down the street, they really can tell the same story about yourself.” she continued.
How can we forget that amazing moment in Season 5 when Carrie tells friend Kyra she is marrying herself and registered at Manolo Blahnik, after her shoes disappear at a party to celebrate the arrival of “Baby Boy Bronson”
What can we expect for the upcoming range, in which she teams up with Manolo CEO George Malkemus…? Unexpected colour combos; pared down options in both pumps and flats between $200-300, bags inspired by the 70’s and 80’s for around $700 and I hear there may also be some trench coats sprinkled into the mix.
The collection, named after Parker’s initials SJP, will be produced entirely in Europe and New York and will be sold exclusively at Nordstrom’s early 2014. Let the fashion countdown begin…
