The last few days have been extremely busy with TIFF related events and I didn’t anticipate doing much blogging until the film fest madness was over but an exception had to be made once I caught wind of the news that British shoe Designer, and one-time Nicolas Kirkwood apprentice, has teamed up with one of my all time fave brands J. Crew to create a capsule collection which debuts this morning during J. Crew’s Spring ’14 presentation at New York Fashion Week.
If you’re unfamiliar with Sophia Webster and her pieces of artwork (seriously get it together and go to her site), I think the words whimsical, fun, imaginative and playful would be the best way to describe her footwear, which isn’t quite how one would describe the J. Crew aesthetic. But, I am confident that the brand’s Creative Director, Jenna Lyons, knows exactly what she is doing when she decided to team up with the Designer who was named one of the Top 100 People to Watch on The Times 2013 Power List and also named Emerging Footwear Designer of the Year by Condé Nast Footwear News . When asked what she thinks about Sophia’s work, Lyons states, “Webster’s shoes are a beautiful world for your feet to live in.”
What we can expect from the collection: 12 shoe styles in a variety of patters and colours that will compliment J. Crew’s trends for next Spring, which will consist of patent leather, polka dot prints, florals, bright taffeta fabrics and a palette of blues…according to WWD. Collection set to launch online and in select stores in 2014.
