The fashion week circuit has come to an end and I was afraid of going into massive withdrawal after being blessed with copious amounts of couture show livestreams until I heard the news surrounding the latest fashion documentary that premiers next month. “Dior et Moi” (“Dior and I”), a film that will take viewers behind the scenes of the first Dior couture collection designed by Artistic Director Raf Simmons, will open the Tribeca Film Festival’s World Documentary competition on April 17th. The project has come as a bit of surprise to the fashion community, who are viewing the film as a bit premature as the designer has only been in his role at the house for two years,
Written and directed by Frederic Tcheng, who also worked on “Valentino: The Last Emperor” and “Diana Vreeland: The Eye Has To Travel”, I have no doubt in my mind that what is screened next month will be nothing short of fabulous. According to the festival’s synopsis of the movie in a recent press release, it is apparent that it will not only focus on Simmons but will also give us a sneak peek at his super talented team of collaborators: “Beautifully melding the everyday pressure-filled components of fashion with a mysterious and elegant reverence for the history of this iconic brand, Tcheng’s colourful homage to the seamstresses of the atelier is nothing short of magical.”
The Tribeca Film Festival takes place from April 16 – 17th. Advanced passes and ticket packages are now on sale for American Express card members and general tickets go on sale this Monday March 10th, 2014.
