I’ve been going to Prince Edward County in northeast Ontario for years. My parents took us there for the first time during the summer of 1996 and I fell in love with small community and white sandy beaches at SandBanks Provincial Park.
As my trips to PEC went from family getaways to girls escapes, I started renting cottage properties from County Retreats, a local county rental company with five beautiful cottages owned by Shannon Hunter; a Toronto native and real estate agent, who dabbles in interior design. Some of you have actually booked stays after seeing some of the properties on my IG stories, and it’s become a yearly tradition for me. I had the pleasure of getting to know Shannon over the last couple of years and in summer 2020 she shared that she wanted to redefine the resort experience and would be opening a new property in the county geared toward families who want all the luxuries of a boutique stay in PEC. A place to disconnect to reconnect, if you will, that is family and kid friendly. Enter the magical Wander the Resort.
To say Shannon and her team understands how to deliver a superior hospitality experience would be the understatement of the century. The newly launched property is a year round destination, so travellers can enjoy and experience throughout the four seasons BUT the news of the well appointed resort travelled quite quickly and it’s completely sold out for 2021. Sorry folks, you’ll either have to sign up for the waitlist in hopes for a cancellation or jump on a 2022 booking now. We recently had the pleasure of a much needed weekend stay after 16 long months of lockdown and let me tell you, it was magical. There are 10 contemporary, well appointed cabins (4 lakeside and 6 poolside) on the lakefront property designed with a modern Scandinavian flare.
Think walls of windows, cozy fireplaces both inside and outdoors, organic soft linens, comfy beds, outdoor showers, sleek European kitchens and heated floors throughout – all just for YOU. No detail is too small, and nothing is overlooked. The staff even leaves a Polaroid camera for guests with complimentary film so moments could be captured and printed to take home. The very generous cabins comes completely stocked with everything you could ever need and feature products in every part of the room from local artisans and makers. Whether it’s the Wander candles, the Vitruvi diffuser with custom scents, the local coffee by Shannon’s fave roaster or the olive oil from the farm down the way, your cabin has everything you need. You just need to arrive with some groceries, a nice bottle of wine and be ready to relax.
There are some amazing amenities soon to come, but have been delayed due to COVID, but in the near future guests can enjoy breakfast bites, coffee, cocktails and movie night in the Clubhouse, the swimming pool and edible garden, where you’ll be able to pick your own herbs and veggies. Shannon has exquisite taste, so don’t miss out on the gift shop – YOU WILL WANT EVERYTHING!
